On Friday November 11, 2016 staff members and volunteers from Volunteers of America Southwest proudly marched in the 30th Annual San Diego Veterans Day Parade alongside some of our country’s veterans and active duty service members. The Volunteers of America Southwest float was an army vehicle decorated with Volunteers of America colors and banners and Custom Logos provided the t-shirts.

For more than 120 years, Volunteers of America Southwest has stepped forward to help vulnerable individuals and families in our community by providing the services and tools necessary to improve their quality of life. Each year, Volunteers of America Southwest serves over 13,000 individuals, children, and families in San Diego, San Bernardino, Riverside, Orange, and Imperial Counties. Volunteers of America Southwest helps veterans with disabilities achieve self-reliance, provides the community with public safety programs, allows men and women to return to their families clean and sober, cares for seniors and those struggling with mental health challenges, houses low-income families in need, supports the futures of our community’s children through education and social development, and serves an average of 1,560 meals to people in the community daily.

Volunteers of America Southwest operates two veterans programs in San Diego county. The Hawley Veterans Services Center is a 20-bed transitional housing facility for single male veterans who are homeless and have a disabling condition. Supportive Services for Veteran Families (SSVF) is a housing assistance program that promotes housing stability among very low-income veterans and their families in San Diego County. The program helps veterans and their families obtain or maintain permanent housing by offering a large array of supportive services.
